Summary: Recounts the true tale of Kahe Te Rauoterangi, daughter of Te Matoha and Hautonga, and one of the few women to sign the Treaty of Waitangi on behalf of Ngāti Toarangatira. Her story is set in the 1820s, while she was living on Kāpiti Island with her young daughter, Mākere. After her servant Patetere dreamed of an attack on their pā, she swam the Kāpiti strait to warn the warriors on the mainland and save her people, while towing Mākere on a raft of raupō.
